Annual Report 2017: Making Prevention Possible

Our 2017 Annual Report is now online! In 2017, together with our members, we worked hard to prevent violent conflict and foster peace in our communities as our members face the severe onset of climate change and associated humanitarian crises. The highlights include our work in Colombia, where we worked on an intergenerational dialogue for peace, Northeast Asia, where we facilitate a civil society dialogue for peace and stability, and our continued work on peace education.

Kofi Annan: the Loss of a Peace Icon

It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Mr Kofi Annan, former secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Mr Kofi Annan was a strong supporter of conflict prevention and his vision to promote a more open multilateralism with the active participation of civil society in prevention and peacebuilding inspired the creation of GPPAC.

Hague Talks in Colombo

At Hague Talks in Colombo, local and international speakers from Sri Lanka, Colombia and The Philippines shared how personal experiences inspired them to become peacebuilders and what led them to take action. Their stories underline the importance of civil society participation in preventing conflict and building peace, as they contribute to peaceful societies and communities.

Animation: Making Conflict Prevention Possible

The past years have shown a drastic increase in the number of violent conflicts worldwide. As a result, many thousands have died and many more had to flee their homes. The solution is not in reacting to violent conflicts when they appear. We need to shift our focus from reacting to violent conflicts to the longer-term focus of prevention. In this animation we explain what conflict prevention is, why it is important and what GPPAC is doing for sustainable peace worldwide.
