‘If There Were Justice, There Would Be Peace!’: an interview with peacebuilder Lucy Nusseibeh

Today is Peace Day. For this special day, we spoke to peacebuilder Lucy Nusseibeh, who has been striving for peace in the Occupied Palestinian Territories for decades. As the founder and director of Middle East Nonviolence and Democracy (MEND), Lucy has initiated many peacebuilding projects with women and youth directly affected by the conflict. Lucy has been living in the Occupied Palestinian Territories since 1978, and founded MEND in 1998.

Peace: A Right for All

How can we contribute to make ‘the Right to Peace' a reality? Today, some of the most important global policy consensus including the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Sustaining Peace agenda, have peacebuilding at their heart. There seems to be a realisation by the international community that in order to promote human, social and economic rights, it is necessary to ensure, first and foremost, the Right to Peace.

Annual Report 2017: Making Prevention Possible

Our 2017 Annual Report is now online! In 2017, together with our members, we worked hard to prevent violent conflict and foster peace in our communities as our members face the severe onset of climate change and associated humanitarian crises. The highlights include our work in Colombia, where we worked on an intergenerational dialogue for peace, Northeast Asia, where we facilitate a civil society dialogue for peace and stability, and our continued work on peace education.

Animation: Making Conflict Prevention Possible

The past years have shown a drastic increase in the number of violent conflicts worldwide. As a result, many thousands have died and many more had to flee their homes. The solution is not in reacting to violent conflicts when they appear. We need to shift our focus from reacting to violent conflicts to the longer-term focus of prevention. In this animation we explain what conflict prevention is, why it is important and what GPPAC is doing for sustainable peace worldwide.
