How civil society organisation coalitions work and what they do
Some focus on SDGs implementation while others concentrate on state accountability on SDG16 - see for example GPPAC partner TAP Network, which focuses on promoting transparency, accountability and participation in SDG 16+. Coalitions also use different methods to facilitate the contextualization of SDGs.
Approaches include:
-
Participating and providing input and recommendations to governmental Voluntary National Reviews,
-
Developing civil society SDG16+ “shadow reviews” (that provide an independent CSO perspective) such as the ones by GPPAC members in Ghana and Cameroon
-
Creating spaces for policy influencing, and meetings with government representatives to discuss SDG related planning and policies.
-
Capacity building to work on SDG 16+ and VNRs.
See the Mapping of coalitions section for examples and links to existing coalitions. Find out if there is an existing one in your country or take inspirations from those that are already established to start your own.
