From Notorious Fighter to Peace Ambassador

Read inspiring story about a young fighter turning his life around and becoming an inspiration for peace. A few years ago, Achia Peter was a ring-leader in a group referred to as the notorious youth fighters/"peace spoilers". He was known for masterminding cattle raids (theft) and other acts of gun violence in Kaabong district (Karamoja region) in Uganda and neighboring cross-border communities in Toposa (South Sudan) and Turkana (Kenya). Today Achia is a peacebuilder and an inspiration for youth.

The Peace Corner Podcast

There's excitement in the soundwaves at GPPAC, as we launched our first-ever podcast series, The Peace Corner. The intern-driven initiative started as a conversation at lunch. We, the interns, enjoyed discussing what we would ask the peacebuilders who constitute the GPPAC global network should the opportunity arise. And so, The Peace Corner was born.

With each pod, we will be talking to a different peacebuilder, working in a different region, telling a different story. By offering unique perspectives on a spectrum of issues, The Peace Corner hopes to engage, challenge, and open your ears to the many courageous voices making peace possible.

Animation: Making Conflict Prevention Possible

The past years have shown a drastic increase in the number of violent conflicts worldwide. As a result, many thousands have died and many more had to flee their homes. The solution is not in reacting to violent conflicts when they appear. We need to shift our focus from reacting to violent conflicts to the longer-term focus of prevention. In this animation we explain what conflict prevention is, why it is important and what GPPAC is doing for sustainable peace worldwide.
