GPPAC & Utrecht University Event on Inclusive Conflict Prevention - 17 May

Conflict prevention has become a major item on the international agenda. From the times of Kofi Annan's pledge to move "from a culture of reaction to a culture of prevention" to the three priorities of the new UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres – "prevention, prevention and prevention." The crucial challenge today is how to shift from conceptualisation of conflict prevention to practical implementation.

On 17 May Utrecht University and GPPAC are organising an event on inclusive conflict prevention. In a panel discussion researchers, civil society practitioners and policymakers will debate the challenges and opportunities for an inclusive approach to prevention.

GPPAC Welcomes Progress in Philippines Peace Process

From April 2-6, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) met in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, for resumed peace talks. This was the fourth round of negotiations in the talks, with the goal of halting the civil war. 

On the 4th day of the peace talks, April the 5th, the parties committed to forging
 an interim joint ceasefire agreement following further talks. GPPAC was present at the opening and closing of negotiations and would like to congratulate all the parties involved. We urge the GRP and the NDFP to continue this process for inclusive and sustainable peace.

UN Insights - Peacebuilding Commission on CAR (16 March 2017)

In our GPPAC Insights we provide sneak peeks into what is happening at the UN. Today we are featuring the UN Peacebuilding Commission meeting on CAR of March 16, 2017. During the meeting the commission 'represented the upmost expression of the need of a more comprehensive cooperation at the international level.'

As part of the Together for a Better Peace project, GPPAC and WFM-IGP aim to spread the knowledge about, support and contribute to the work of the UN Peacebuilding Commission.

Colombia: GPPAC Working Towards A Culture of Peace

On March 17, 2017, GPPAC and La Paz Querida (Our Wanted Peace) facilitated a methodology workshop in Bogotá, Colombia. The event was organised in preparation of a new project taking place in Colombia this year, called Intergenerational Dialogues for a Culture of Peace. On behalf of GPPAC, Darynell Rodriguez Torres and Jenny Aulin presented and discussed concepts and approaches of the GPPAC multi-stakeholder manual and outcome mapping. The goal of the workshop was to support the preparation of the staff and facilitators of La Paz Querida, who will be conducting intergenerational dialogues across Colombia over the next six months.
