This newsflash is an informal source for information for all the persons and organisations we have been in contact with concerning the proposal “The Role of Civil Society and NGOs in the Prevention of Armed Conflict—Towards an International NGO conference at the United Nations in 2004”.  
Basic information 
This programme should lead to the conference as envisaged by the Secretary General in his report on “The Prevention of Armed Conflict”, in which Kofi Annan urges NGOs with an interest in conflict prevention  Tekstvak: to organise “an international conference of local, national and international NGOs on their role in conflict prevention and future interaction with United Nations in this field“ (Rec. 27).
Over the last few months the ECCP has initiated the preparatory phases of a global civil society conference to bring together representatives from the peacebuilding community.  
In sum, the ECCP proposes a two-year integrated program of research, consultation and discussion to take place all over the world. Six regional conferences will focus the experience of each region and lead on to a major Tekstvak: In order to reach a wider audience, it was strongly recommended to us to create a place on the internet where people can find the basic Tekstvak: information and the latest developments of the programme. We are very pleased that the European Network University has Tekstvak: committed itself to launch within some weeks a simple website dedicated to this end.  More news will follow.
