International Media Support

The mission of the IMS is to enhance peace, stability, democracy, freedom of expression and pluralism of the press in conflict and conflict-threatened areas through rapid assistance to media practitioners and media institutions. This is achieved through rapid interventions to promote and strengthen press freedom and professional journalism and to improve the working conditions of local journalists and media practitioners. The aim is to allow the population in endangered areas to exercise their right to express themselves freely - also in times of crisis. The main approach includes audits/identification missions to assess needs, pro-active and timely support to media and media professionals in conflict areas, establishing links with longer-term development agencies, and gathering of experiences and “lessons learned” in the field of media support
