Fondation Hirondelle

Founded on the assumption that independent media have a fundamental role, particularly in authoritarian, non-democratic societies, Fondation Hirondelle works to establish an independent media in situations where conflict is endemic, where there are open hostilities, or in post-conflict regions. It is also present in situations where the political, economic or social conditions are difficult for actors working in the development field. The Foundation has set up radio stations and a news agency, which aim to be close to the people by broadcasting and working in local languages. It hopes to contribute to the development of public opinion, which is responsible, civic-minded and open to dialogue and it places particular emphasis on justice as a factor leading to reconciliation. Hirondelle adheres to the recommendations of the UNESCO Round Table on the media in conflict and post-conflict regions.
