(a) Freeplay Foundation
The Freeplay Foundation is committed
to enhancing the quality of life through access to information by radio. Working
mainly in Africa, the Foundation collaborates with government ministries,
international bodies, NGOs and content providers to advance economic progress
and promote community development. It
does this by supporting radio communications initiatives that use wind-up
and solar technology solutions to ensure sustainable access to listening,
especially for women and children. Of specific interest is the Radios for the Consolidation of Peace project
in Niger. The project, a partnership between the government of Niger, the
UNDP and the Freeplay Foundation, aims to promote peace and stability by encouraging
people to exchange their illicit small arms for a wind-up radio.

(b) National Community Radio Forum
The National Community Radio Forum
(NCRF) was launched on December 1993, in Orlando, Soweto, in order to lobby
for the diversification of the airwaves in South Africa, and to foster a dynamic
broadcasting environment in the country through the establishment of community
radio stations. The NCRF is a national, member-driven association of community
radio stations and support service organisations.
