European Institute for the Media
The EIM is a think-tank and mainly
concerned with cross-border developments in the media and their role in the
process of European integration, the public interest aspects of media developments,
and the growth of the information society. The EIM’s main activities include
monitoring the media development in former one-party regimes and assisting
the establishment of pluralist media in new democracies. The institute performs
research and comparative analysis of media developments in European and Mediterranean
countries undergoing political and economic transition. Of particular concern
is the contribution of the media towards diversity, participation and accountability
in society. As part of its assistance to the media in Central and Eastern
Europe and the former Soviet Union, the Media and Democracy Programme frequently
organises workshops and seminars.
